My life as a Furniture Maker was molded by my employment. I was never classically trained in the craft.

The first event down this road was getting a job with a family friend who owned a cabinet shop, Germans Woodshop in Ivanhoe California. The owner, Jack German, taught me the cabinet trade, and in addition became a friend and mentor. I am proud to be introduced to Jacks friends as “My Son Steve”.

The second was going to work for William Brower, a Furniture Maker on Newbury Street in Boston, Massachusetts. I worked with William for less than two years, but he introduced me to the world of quality furniture manufacturing.

The third event was working for Trouvailles of Watertown, Massachusetts. For ten plus years I built custom chairs, sideboards, credenza’s and tables one at a time. It was a great place to work with other furniture makers, always watching and learning from them.

The final event was opening my own shop. I love to build curved veneered furniture, and strive to make each piece of the highest quality possible.

Thanks for viewing my work,

Steven Postma
